“If you’re not doing anything Sunday evening, come by the farm. We’re having a little potluck and The Stray Birds are gonna play some music. Oh, and we’re going to shoot some video that night, too.” It went something like that.
Susanne and I showed up at Herrbrook, a Lancaster county farm, artist retreat, and former intentional community, where our friends Jacob and Nancy Keeler have been living for a while. Jacob makes videos, among other things, and shot a really nice The Stray Birds one a few months ago for their song Birds of the Borderland.
Less than a week before the release of the brand new Birds album, it was time to make another video. We gathered around 6pm on a muggy Sunday evening with 50+ other people and enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner and excellent conversation with old and new friends alike. It was a wonderfully diverse cast of musicians and music lovers.
As the sun was finally slipping away behind the hills we gathered in front of the old barn. The band was already playing inside when the doors swung open. We all filed in, grabbed a spot, and were treated to a magical night of music and community. The result is the magnificent video below, beautifully orchestrated and crafted by Jacob Keeler.
This is what creativity and community are all about. Enjoy!
